Above + Below Exhibition Closes Saturday 28th May

"In this collaborative exhibition, the artists draw inspiration from everyday objects and experiences encountered in Japan’s cityscape to create striking artworks; from hyper-realistic paintings of vibrant manhole covers and funky prints playing on Japan’s centuries-old paste-up culture, through to neon infused ukiyo-e genre hacks on silkscreen print." Night Market Infiltration

Whilst in Taipei, I was able to explore the Art Cart we made in December 2015. I pieced togethera pop up piece which I took to the Taipei Night Markets. The setup was simplistic, easy to carry, and fast to set up and take down.

The setup created intrigue and confusion with the locals. This mini-project - along with last years Art Cart, are as much about experimenting in public spaces as reclaiming public space.

Art Cart

Having documented different types of metal and wooden carts, and been fascinated with the setup, of food, and amenities stalls during our travels, we decided to create our own mobile Art Cart.

We assembled in Newtown, Sydney, walking 10km through 5 neighbourhoods, sharing our work and forward use of colour with anyone who was interested. The P.I.T.S as a team disagree with the notion of art for art galleries only. Art Cart was an ideal way to explore other aspects inclusion, and presentation.

Art Cart is just as much about being in control of our own image and publicity, as it is being in control of the visual pollution and advertising that surrounds us, that we have no say in and increasing encroaches public spaces.
